Both are based around an art club in school. Also, both series have a calm and relaxing, yet comical atmosphere. Both series also have very entertaining characters, each with their own unique personalities.
They have similar "Student life" theme and of course, Most of characters in both anime are involve with art. Other than that, they are light comedy, mind soothing atmosphere and have word "Sketch" in a title.
Cute shows about female art students. Hidamari Sketch is cuter and funnier, while Sketchbook is more slice-of-life and relaxing.

Both are about a group of high school students involved in art. Hidamari is more focused on daily life, whereas Sketchbook focuses more on ideas and creativity.
Both are equally amusing and interesting, if you're into slow slice of life anime.
