Magic Knight Rayearth

Both shows involve girls getting transported to a fantasy realm complete with giant suits of armour. The animation in escaflowne is much nicer however (not to jab at MKR, I love this show) and it is shorter at 26 episodes. So if you liked MKR, give escaflowne a try!

Female-centered mecha isekai series.
Magic, fantasy, war, blonde princesses, bishounen, action, drama, and romance.
Both are still very nice and enjoyable, even after many years.

Both feature a medieval fantasy setting with mecha. They are also both fairly shoujo, but with the female characters taking charge.

Both shows features female protagonists, transported to fantasy realms, full of prophecies, magic and mystically powered mechs. The difference in the shows are while the trio from Magic Knight Rayearth are destined to be the heroes and defeat the villains, the protagonist in Escaflowne doesn't posses direct fighting powers. Also MKR plays it a bit more idealistic and straightforward, while Escaflowne has more character depth and the internal politics of the world are better explored, making it more complex.
Both are about magical girls summoned to another world to fight with the help of mechas. They both share a melodramatic feeling, but with comic relief. The girls meet new allies, fall in love and all the classic maho shoujo stuff.
