In both animes, the lives of humans are being threatened and in humanity's attempt at staying alive, they borrow power from demons/yomi in order to fight back. Owari no Seraph is humanity's war against vampires, while Claymore is humanity's struggle against Yomi. Humans attain power from demons but are always on the edge of losing control of their bodies and soul to the demons that reside within them.
