Kyoukai no Kanata has a much lighter feel compared to Tokyo Ghoul's dark and gothic vibe, however they have very similar qualities
- both MC are half breeds
- both struggle to control their non-human half
If you're looking for something with the same premise as Tokyo Ghoul but lacking the darkness of it, try Kyoukai no Kanata - same ideas just a lighter, easy/breezy vibe to it.
Similarities:
Both anime contain a main character who is half human and half monster. (Half-Youmu in KnK and Half-Ghoul in Tokyo Ghoul).
Both anime and dark fantasies type anime with elements of supernatural and horror.
The OP and ED's of both anime are stunning, and some of the best I've heard, KnK taking a more J-Pop/Rock route and Tokyo Ghoul a J-Rock/Metal style, either way great soundtracks in both.
Differences:
In Kyoukai no Kanata, the MC has a love interest, meanwhile in Tokyo Ghoul, the MC does not.
