Both are adventure stories that, while having their fair share of action, deal more with the relationships between the characters. They both have a sense of family or community building among the characters that leaves you with a warm fuzziness after the more dramatic episodes.
Akatsuki is more focused on the main character (Yona) while Log Horizon spreads the attention out more. Akatsuki is more mature of the two and would probably fit slightly older audiences. Log Horizon, while more lighthearted, doesn't feel underwhelming when a serious issue arises.
