The Director of Eureka 7 (Tomoki Kyoda) was also involved as Assistant Director for Rahxephon, and both series share a lot in common. Rahxephon, like Eureka 7, is also a "character-driven" mecha which I'd highly recommend to anyone who likes a good love story with giant robots thrown in, or a giant robot story with a love story thrown in - take your pick, you win either way.
Quick summary: This was the previous work of the people who did the Eureka Seven anime. Both have music references, mecha, and a love story between the main characters.

For all its worth, Eureka Seven and RahXephon takes place in a futuristic world with technology above our own. With such technology breeds chaos and struggle between their respective worlds.
There is the presence of mecha in both series that often takes the ground and skies in terms of combat. They are piloted by the characters who fights what they believe in.
Both anime series are also handled by the production studio BONES so expect some similar animation designs along with the visuals.
Both series contains a female sub-plot as well involving the main character.
There is a sense of mystery going around as well regarding many origins
