Both of these shows show the effects of war on a world.
But while Future Boy Conan presents a much lighter mood, NTHT tells its story by directly presenting the harsh realities of war.
Nonetheless, both shows hold similar themes that will most likely attract a specific crowd.
So if you liked one, try the other.

NTHT's setting is an alternate world, a bleak dystopian wasteland that seems to be made up of almost nothing but desert and blood-red sky; the atmosphere is stifling and oppressive, a nihilistic vision where skies are not blue, but blood-red, and there isn't a drop of water to be found, completely opposite of FBC. Enter Lala-Ru, a girl who, like Lana of FBC, holds a power that can save the world from its ruin: a power that has fallen into the wrong hands. NTHT is very much like FBC might have been, had Miyazaki been feeling suicidally depressed. Both of these are tales

A sinister man with a large tower as his base hunts a girl who holds the secret to the energy he needs to power it. An outsider boy acts as her protector. Both series take place in a dead/wounded future Earth. Both have the same basic plot progression in terms of what happens to the characters and where they go. Now and Then, Here and There is basically a darker version of Future Boy Conan that takes place on Arrakis instead of Waterworld. Both shows are really good!
Both take place in an alternative dark world of war and are about a boy who suddenly happens to go into that world because he wants to save a mysterious girl from an emperor who doesn't want to let go of his vision of future but still tries to win the war wich he can only do with the help of the girl. The story is very, very much the same and both are alike in their art and date of production and so are the main characters. Future Boy Conan is not all as dramatic as Now and Then, Here and There and a

Set in a post-apocalyptic world where the protagonists are a young boy and a young girl. Both have the same feel and can be sad sometimes.
I think that both anime are classics that everyone should watch.
Both shows take place in a futuristic apocalyptic wasteland where humans have recently started to attempt to rebuild society.
The art style is somewhat similar between the shows, but "Now and Then, Here and There" has a bit more of an orange and yellow hue to it, while Mirai Shounen Conan focuses on lots of greens and blues.
In both shows, the main character is a boy who is attempting to save a girl from being used by authoritative government powers against her will.
There is a theme in both shows of the main characters attracting evil forces wherever they go, and there are very similar moments in

Totalitarian dictatorship in a post-apocalyptic setting. The "government" of each anime is trying to kidnap and use the secondary main character, who are both girls, for their own plans and personal gain. Both main villains begin to lose their sanity as the show goes on and become power hungry. In Now and Then, the case could be made that the villain had already lost his mind from the beginning. Both villains have attractive women as personal guards, both main characters are young boys who have a very black and white view on the world and a strong ethos against killing. They also tend to act

Both anime are about a teenage couple in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic future where they fight a military dictatorship built on pre-war arms technology. In both, the girl holds the power to change the world for the better but needs shounen MC to protect her - a mix of Yamato Nadeshiko and damsel in distress.
Both touch dark themes and put protagonists and side characters in painful situations. With Mirai Shounen Conan clearly being a kid's show, there never is a doubt those challenges will be overcome. Consider Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku the adult version done by a slightly sadistic director, because here the good guys

Both have similar themes. The main character is a boy who does whatever it takes to save a girl. It's full of sorrow and treason, war, military and hope. But Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku is much more harsher. Both give me similar emotions. There's no more similar show than this.
