Selector and Fantatsista are both of the card game genre, but one of the ways they vary from the normal card game Anime is the fact the main characters are female. The main character is naïve and doesn't understand the rules for the game. Both series have wishes fulfilled for those playing. Irony is that while Fanasista is a more light fair, the reason for the wish fulfillment is darker in the fact who ever is granting the wishes happens to be after the main characters cards and is manipulating things. Selector is the darker series and the “goal” behind granting the wishes isn't revealed

The main theme around these two shows is competition, where the characters uses cards for battles. These cards are unique where they summon the avatars in battle and giving them commands from their users. If a user is defeated, a penalty issues depending on the rules of the game. The character designs are either moe, funny, or having a chibi appearance to make it a lovable character.
Fantasista Dolls is a lighthearted show, that uses groups in battle, and is a comedy. WIXOSS is a dark show, that is a psychological theme, and uses a single avatar in battle.
