Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch, Umineko no Naku Koro ni Recommendations
I was actually kinda shocked with how similar these two shows were (especially considering the two are different genres).
Code Geass and Umineko are both genius concepts, wrapped in mindless and over-the-top violence... with a nice garnish of mind-screw.
Code Geass is about one man's battle against a corrupt empire while Umineko is about one man's battle against a powerful witch. In fact, without even looking at the shows as a whole, you could draw similarities between Lelouch Lamperouge/Vi Britannia and Battler Ushiromiya. Both are highly intelligent, though stubborn and arrogant. Both also care about those close to them, and this care leads to some reckless decisions.
Beyond those two, Code Geass and Umineko also share: Unhinged girls (Nina Einstein and Maria Ushiromiya), evil yet hilariously badass old men (Charles zi Britannia and Kinzo Ushiromiya) and even indifferent but powerful people who are more than they initially appear (Schneizel el Britannia and Frederica Bernkastel). Not to mention they both have characters named Kanon, who are subservient to someone else and pretty satisfied with that.
Going back to the two series as a whole, Code Geass and Umineko both take a realistic concept (war in Code Geass, a murder mystery in Umineko) and add a magic element to it (though Umineko makes you question whether the magic is real). They both contain references to mythology and famous works, such as Dante's Inferno.
However, Code Geass and Umineko also share a drawback: they suffer from rushing. In Umineko's case, the anime was an adaptation which cut out a significant portion of the original work's content. In Code Geass' case, the second season tried to end every plot point introduced in the first season... which required covering events at ridiculous speeds.
In summary, it is important to note that Code Geass and Umineko are not very similar in terms of plot or genre. Code Geass is an action series while Umineko is a mystery. Instead, it is the themes, concepts and a few characters that tie the two together.
Despite this, I am confident that if you liked one of these animes, you will like the other (and if you LOVED one of them, watch the other one... right now).

The only difference is that umineko lacks a plot for changing the world.
Also umineko has a lot of gothic style characters...
Everything else including epicness is the same in both animes.
