Both are from the same creator, and have a supernatural mysterious plot with some horror and drama. The characters are all great, and the main character is a anti social boy with a cold attitude but he really cares about his friends and tries to find the truth behind the events.
Both where created by the same person and they are interesting horror anime. Shiki is more about unexplained murders though, but it still has the same suspenseful and frighting feeling.
If you watched Ghost Hunt and want something more serious, or if you watched Shiki and want something a bit less heavy, then these two are a great match. They are both quite dark aesthetically, and both involve investigating the supernatural. Ghost Hunt is much more lighthearted, and is broken up into smaller arcs. Shiki is a single narrative and takes itself much more seriously. They are both good picks if you want to watch something spooky around the Halloween season, or any time you want to feel that mood.
Both are horror driven, Ghost hunt being more straight to the point with multiple stories while shiki is a plot driven horror. Both are creepy at times and both will leave you satisfied at the end of the series.

Both are hybrid horror anime. As in neither one of them is solely horror, but rather a mixture of genres depending on the story arc. Shiki is a cohesive epic outlining a remote village's untimely demise, ghost hunt is a mediocre collection of paranormal investigations.
