They both have a serious and a hilarious atmosphere. The action is intense, and WILL keep you wanting for more and more!
Both have really well developed characters and similar overall feel. Althoug they're not similar in plot or the settings, they have a lot in common.

both of these are a MUST WATCH if your a guy who's into shounen or is new to anime itself. these 2 are a favorite among shounen fans
both have a lot of action, comedy and epic characters
both have that punk/emo/sasuke-like character that the girls love [kanda=hibari] (seriously that character it mostly the reason girls watch these, lol)
both have another character that's OPPOSITE to the above people [Lavi=Yamamoto]

Both these series are really long series which are not repetitive nor boring in any way, and don´t have that much fillers. As I am not that much of a fan of long anime series, I must say both these series made it high into my favourites, D.Gray-man ranking first and Hitman Reborn second.
And what´s similar between these two animes except for that they´re both interesting shonen? Firstly, they both can be serious and humorous at the same time, while KHR is more humorous, DGM is more serious, though the difference is small. Also, the artstyle - it has been a bit off
