Both are dark yet tongue-in-cheek fantasy stories based off late 80s shonen manga with a cast full of manly men and a surprising amount of women who can hold their own as well. They are also packed to the gills full of western music and pop culture references and influences.

Both are newer anime adaptations based on older 80s Shonen Jump manga. Both stories feature hyper-masculine characters with over the top fights. Both Bastard and JoJo can get outrageously bloody out of nowhere to the point where it can get downright silly. Dark Schneider is pretty close to being a protagonist similar to the Joestars or even Dio Brando with his muscles and cocky attitude. Both stories also start out in a dark fantasy setting but slowly evolve over time.
