Death games are the game in both of these series, yet the main characters are both into gaming and that is how they end up drawn into the world around them. One is your typical death game while the other involves rounds, which is arguably a newer thing to series which fall under the Battle Royale trope.

VERY similar in its backstory of certain characters and the main character's familiarity with the game/gaming. If you enjoyed one, you will enjoy the other.
MC is thrown into a survival game with all participants having some sort of ability — actual superpowers in Deatte 5-byou de Battle and different types of bombs in Btooom!. Naturally, both have a lot of fighting, hiding, and killing.
Protagonist and friends are thrown into a game with abilities to fight against each other in Deatte 5-byou de Battle, and Btooom! is the same but with bombs. Lots of strategic games, team-building, and exploitation going on, and both protagonists have a female sidekick/love interest.
Both are Death Games, where the MC is a anti-social gamer, who uses gamer mentality to overhelm the obstacles.
Both are located in place cut from the normal world. In both the Mc later gets a blonde love interest, who's also a participant in the games.
Differences: is 5-byou has superpowers, Btoom has...timed-bombs. 5-byou MC is far colder and more manipulative. Btooom! does have much better animation and a better OST.
Insanly similar main characters and style. Action in unusual survival game world with new rules/mechanics.

Both the anime feature the main character falling inside a ridicuosly set death game where he fights alongside a female comrade to solve the mysteries and unveil the antagnonist who sets up this game. The gamer MC is shown skilled and smart enough to escape traps.
