They are trapped to play a game of dead. Kill or die. When Danganronpa have the players trapped in school, Btooom! have the players trapped in a Pacific island. In that time in both anime they are on filmed with cameras.
The same situation where individuals either kill one another or team up to get out of the game, dissimilarities: in Btoom the contestants chooses to kill one another while in Danganronpa the individuals have banded together.
Both are survival games in which the people have to try and kill each other.
Both series seems to involve a game like scenario where the characters/contestants are stuck in an isolated area where their lives are in danger. At the same time, there's a sense of psychological mystery going on regarding their location and what's inside it.
The main male protagonist seems to be a normal boy but gets caught up in this situation after one faithful day. Among other factors, there is thrilling like atmosphere surrounding the origins of the series. In order to survive, they must escape that isolated location.
Have the same feeling in which the characters can be free when they kill and survive until the end.

survival game, they both have been forced to play, the story and art in btooom is much better than danganronpa, but danganronpa have intelligent characters solving mystery
Both involves a situation where it's a kill or be killed kind of thing, except of course the MC in one anime gets the girl while in the other anime MC loses his girl.
Both involves characters in a kill or be killed situation.

Both shows has unique similarities: weak main characters who eventually became badasses and out-of-this-world survival game mechanics where everyone has to kill in order for them to survive/escape their current situation. So if you like a gut-wrenching, adrenaline-flowing typed survival anime, then choose one of them.

Being trap in "The Game" means something bad is going to happen. In the story the main characters were trapped in an isolated place where there is no way out to escape. However, their is one way to escape in this mess: It's every man for himself, which means, don't trust anyone, you fight to the end. Morale, clues, and sometimes weapons were used in the series.
The difference is that Btooom, is much more of an action genre, and takes place on an islandl. Danganronpa takes place on a school, where they used clues to lure the suspect in.
Both of these animes forced their players to play their survival game, while Btooom is action packed, Danganronpa is more on the investigating side.
This is a bit more of a hardcore version of Danganronpa where the characters are on an island and each have a number of bombs. The only way to get off the island is to kill 7 people. The only mysterious part in this anime is why they are on the Island to begin with.

Both are action psychological anime where a main character gets trapped somewhere with other people and must kill other people to get out. While Btooom is happining on island, Danganronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei The Animation is happening at a school.
People are stuck in a place where you can get out if you kill people. Everybody says they need to work together at the start, and people start to distrust each other as they get stuck for longer and longer. Both are good anime with some nice gore from time to time.
Both series have the same feel to it, specifically, all the characters have to play the game that have been set up, and which is life is at stake and freedom is the prize.

A large group of people are trapped in a death game and are forced to kill a certain amount of people in order to leave. At first glance, the male protagonist seems to be very average and normal, but they are soon shown to be very skilled in this particular situation.
They are both flawed but really enjoyable series.

Both anime are similar by the fact that the characters are thrown into a real life world they do not know of. While the characters in danganronpa are being trapped in a school upon being accepted, the characters in btoom are thrown onto an island. The students in danganronpa are chosen depending on their talent and the participants in btoom are chosen by others who do not want them. In btoom, the participants are to kill one another for obtaining 7 green crystals that will allow them to obtain a ticket for escaping the island. As for danganronpa, the students are to murder each other
