While the 2 shows tell really different stories, they both treat the same theme of how to maintain a working society when some people (or everyone in Shinsekai Yoru) is a walking nuke and whether sacrifices are legitimate.
However, while both shows have a somewhat similar setting and themes, they go about telling their story from a different point of view with a really different tone and pacing, making them complementary shows more than similar ones.
Although Shinsekai Yori had a slightly darker undertone, two of which will seem comparable when put aside with one another. Essentially these two revolves around the idea of having a distant apocalyptic future caused by the inevitable development of superhuman powers by humans, especially with children, which resulted in uneven and chaotic societal treatment between ages (particularly between teenagers and adults).
One might find one better over the other, nonetheless, if you find one enjoyable then you might as well try the other as they have the same premise which establishes the entirety of the plot.
