Both are episodic comedies in which the main character is suddenly engaged to a non-human girl due to ridiculous circumstances. Seto no Hanayome retreads many of the tropes and characterizations that Urusei Yatsura set forward (I honestly kept referring to Kai as Mendou by accident cuz they're so similar), is much more ridiculous and over the top, and is A LOT shorter. If you want a taste of some of the ideas Urusei Yatsura brought to the genre, but are intimidated by the older art style and long episode count, I recommend trying Seto no Hanayome first.
