These shows offers characters with unique combination of persona and how they deal with stuffs.
An example of formula to create characters in these shows is COOL THING A + COOL THING B, you know, so it will be twice as cool, probably the same principle as that robot unicorn.
Zombies high school, ninja vampires, loli necromancer, superpower half-monkey, gunslinger priest, genius pig-incarnate, whatever two cool stuffs combined.
Genre-wise both are plain different, don't even try to relate it. Saiyuki beat the crap out of villain with serious attitude and gay appeal that attract lots of maiden audience. Zombie show fighting didn't all that serious, , at
