Similar vibe at certain times. Both have beautiful background art and very fitting BGM. You get a kind of eerie feeling, but still a sense of wonder from both anime/movie. There is also the same sense of the 'unknown' and the viewers discover the mysteries of the world alongside the younger protagonists.

The shows resemble each other in that they both share similar vibes and revolve around discovering more to the mystery behind their environments. Both are adventure-ish darker fantasies.

Both series have a similar atmospheric feel to it and share the concept of discovering a "greater unknown" if you were to go above/underground. The tunnel city's design scheme from Patema and their people's manner of dress also resemble that of Made in Abyss. Both have darker undertones and are adventure-esque although Patema is hardly as dark as Abyss.
