Both series are cheerful and funny in a sometimes bizarre way, but with an underlying tone of unpleasantness throughout the series.

Both lead girls are sweet, earnest, friends-to-all and the shows share the same atmosphere: light, fun, but angst/drama at the right moments.
The romance dynamic is also very similar.
