Skip Beat!

They are both shoujo titles based off very popular manga with one girl and two good looking guys. However Skip Beat has a more atypical shoujo lead, in a good way -- it's a refreshing breathe in the monotone repetitive world that is shoujo. Fruits Basket, though, has more interesting characters (other than the main female lead).
The general feeling is quite similar, although the animation is very different. Both star female main character who have a troubling past, but are still able to cover up their lies to focus on their tasks. As the series progress, you really get to know how these characters think and feel. Also, both series are very similar in the way they suddenly change from outrageously funny to deadly serious. Handkerchiefs recommended.

- Both main characters are female, extremely hard working, and oblivious to the love of others.
- Both main characters have in some way lost their family at a young age
- Both main characters are good at cooking
Dissimilarities:
- Fruits Basket lies in the fantasy genre as well as real life whereas Skip Beat! is pure reality
- Fruits Basket is with normal people (as far as status goes - not counting the supernatural, obviously)
- Skip Beat! deals with celebrities - the entertainment business (movies not THAT you dirty people!)

Both animes have storys about the growth of strong and dynamic characters that work through lifes struggles together. Skip Beat is more realistic but equally as deep and thought provoking.
