Both Shugo Chara! and Fruits Basket have a lot of comedy based upon characters making unusual transformations, but I think the biggest similiarity is in their characters. The heroine finds herself getting involved with two boys; one known at school as a prince, and the other identified as a cat. The "cat" also has a possessive relative who has romantic feelings for him.
Overall, I think if you enjoyed the light-heartedness and romance of Fruits Basket, Shugo Chara! is probably a good series to check out (both anime and manga). They also both touch upon heavy emotional themes, such as being true to one's self.
Its similar by one girl Amu (shugo chara) and Tohru (fruit basket) liking two boys Tadase and Ikuto(shugo chara) and Yuki and kyo (fruit basket). Also Ikuto and Kyo transforms to a cat!
Both have humour based on changing, and even though the changing is controllable, something sets it off. The characters are also very similar, with a girl who helps people caught in a love triangle with a sweet and prince-like pretty boy, and a cat who has a darker past, and a relative who loves him and is scarily posessive.
They both include some kind of transformation.
They both take place more or less at school.
They both have a handsome boy whose nickname is "Prince" at school.
Both anime have a group of "Fangirls" for the prince (supporting characters)
Also, in both anime, one of the characters has to do a certain action to trigger something. E.g, In Fruits Basket, those with the curse have to be hugged by someone of the opposite sex to be able to transform. In Shugo Chara, if one of the characters calls Tadase "Prince" he character changes,
Both these shoujo animes have fantasy elements, great female protagonists, and a love triangle.
