A lot of politics element, a main character who only want to save people/be hero but end up butchering everything including their family, also both don't hesitate to use questionable method, gray morality, newfound family, etc. The art & animation have similar style also.
The difference is that Wei Wuxian has more luck than Kiritsugu and is given second chance to find his happiness with certain stoic person, while Kiritsugu just stay drop dead and leaving some unpleasant legacy.
