Although different by genres (horror/ecchi), both are about a loser guy who finally gets a date only to find out he was betrayed and his chosen one was actually supernatural being (ghoul/demon) and is trying to kill him. He gets saved only to became one of her kind. Thanks to becoming ghoul/demon he meets another girl(s).

Similarities: They both start with gore. The protagonist is a normal kid, he's hopeless with girls, he gets a date with a girl who's out of his league (as his friend says), (won't include the spoilers) but, things happen on that date that change the protagonist's life.
Dissimilarities: The difference in genre - Tokyo Ghoul is more intense and does not have fan service like DxD. The music style is more atmospheric in Tokyo Ghoul and supports the chilling feel, whilst DxD maintains a light-hearted tone. Tokyo Ghoul censors

The heroes of these series are eminently similar in their development of becoming preeminent. Issei and Kaneki are both average on the go individuals who possess normal lives until they inadvertently get themselves into a situation that would change their viewpoint on their worlds forever. They succeed to thrive in their unfamiliar worlds by striving to not only learning from their saviors but to protect the ones they hold dear to them.
