Both films deal with themes relating to love and death in the face of extreme challenges, time, and memory. However, Kimi no Na wa is far better executed than the Steins;Gate movie.

Time travel elements and also have similar "forgetting names due to timelines" kind of stuff. Just go watch it and you'll get it. It's a definitely must-watch if you have already watched Steins;Gate.

If you're coming from Kimi no Na wa, watch the original Stein;Gate series first!
While watching the Steins;Gate Movie, I couldn't help but notice the striking parallels between it, and the ending of Kimi no Na wa. Kimi no Na wa captures the best parts of the relationship between Okabe and Krisu and twists it into a fresh and exciting movie set in our down-to-earth present day. Both movies are definitely worth the emotional payoff, and will leave you thinking for a long time.
