In both movies, an event on large scale has happened and now people need to live in a different way than they used to and need to survive with the (new) laws of nature. We follow a boy and girl through the whole movie, learning about what has happened to their ancestors/family.
The setting and the main characters are quite similar.
An unfortunate event with concussive implications led to a big change to the civilization and the two main characters from different "worlds", a boy and a girl, meet.
Both movies give off the same vibe.
Both original movies are rated PG-13 and fall under the Adventure & Sci-Fi genre. I personally find the art style and animation similar.
Patema Inverted & Origin: Spirits of the Past both have a female and male protagonist around the same age group.
A rescue mission between the protagonists is included in both movies.
Both are from seemingly 'different worlds' and work together to defeat a common enemy.
In both settings, something 'big' happened to change the current way people live.
Both have similar subtle themes of; romance, adventure, environmental, lost civilization and post-apocalyptic.
