Both feature tons of brutally dark scenes, but the tone generally remains neutral thanks to copious amounts of comic relief.
The plot tends to be fast-paced and unpredictable.
Both have great visuals and beautifully executed battles.
Shounen series with overbearingly comedic character designs and archetypal characters that are often misconstrued as brooding, dark, and realistic due to the "mature themes" like death in them
It's true they both kill! But they do it for their own good reasons.
(Akame Ga Kill) Night Raid: Fight and Kill against the corrupted capital for the citizens that suffer.
(Hunter x Hunter (2011)) Gon: Fights for his friends and he tries to get to his Father.
Killua: Used to kill for bad reasons. But ever since he met Gon. He tries his best to protect and stay at gons side.
Kurapika:Fight and Kills for his race. Since they get hunted down for a special feature of they'res.
These two Animes do what ever they can to get to they're goals and to protect they're beloved.

The main characters and villains have no mercy in fighting. They rather kill their opponents than letting them live. Training is the key to be stronger. Both shows are amazing.
