Both are anime films directed by the brilliant Noboru Ishiguro. Both are space operas, which focus on a large-scale war between two opposing factions with different mentalities. The art and animation are very good for their age, and they also have great soundtracks. Overall, both anime have a similar atmosphere and vibe.
