In the beginning, both series are about a girl developing some fighting spirit due to cirumstances, and the protagonists go through a number of trials. Also, in both the heroine has some trouble with represantants of the other sex. So if you like that, you may find both titles similar for the first episodes.
However, then they diverge more and more. Very generally speaking, I think Skip beats puts more emphasis on the development of the main character, and Hana yori Dango more on the drama between the characters.
