Both involving strange/mad/problematic girls around a new man in town, temples and holy things. Both had alternative feelings (higurashi:comedy and horror, air:comedy and that sad drama)
The never ending cycle of life and death of Air is on the same lines of Higurashi, where it's main characters struggle to find the perfect ending, only to have it taken away at the last minute. These two make you think outside the box in terms of the same patterns repeating over time.
Even so they aren't the same Genre, both of them are about a main character new in the town who meet a lot of strange girls. Also slight romantic elements are in both of them!
