Both shows follow ruthless men who despise war so much that they'll do anything to prevent one, and end up getting torn between their mission and their family. Furthermore, Loid and Yor marrying only to fall in love later mirrors Kiritsugu and Irisiviel's relationship in their backstory. Also, Yor and Iri are very alike as well, in that they're both very kind, cheerful and eccentric women who are also surprisingly wise at times.
Furthermore, Kiritsugu and Loid are both assisted by a stoic, no-nonsense woman (Maiya/Fiona) whom they mentored and is one-sidedly in love with them.
