Similarities are overwhelming. Crude comedy, a bald leader of the group who used to be in the civil service, a hot girl with a bad attitude, a technical genius, and a ship hideaway. Also similar are the violent scenes, and guns, guns, guns.

Its pretty obvious at times that Black Lagoon had gotten some inspiration from Cowboy Bebop, BL even has a similar feel to CB as well. So if you seen CB or BL and you are looking for more some the same action awesomeness, this series is a great pick. Highly recommended!

Same gun-toting badassery, same motley-crew antics, same moments of, "holy crap, that's actually well-done characterization."

The similarities between these two anime are not so apparent, however they do share quite a bit in common. Both shows are about a rag tag bunch of pirates (or bounty hunters, same thing, right?) who make their living dong dangerous things. Both shows are episodic in nature, and are very character driven. While not on the same par as Bebop, Black Lagoon is no slouch when it comes to character development, which is a bit of a surprise from a show whose immediate goal is to deliver as much blood, action, and gunplay as possible (which Bebop also has quite a bit of). Revy,   read more

Amazing, exciting, and gritty anime which focus on a crew composed of four people (bounty hunters or modern pirates) and their adventures and jobs at the edge of legality. The main characters are quite similar: the hot and dangerous woman (Faye/Revy), the hacker (Ed/Benny), and the ship’s wise owner/leader (Jet/Dutch). Both anime have large amounts of action, badassery, guns, violence, black humour, mafia, plus awesome characters, episodic nature, great animation, and memorable music. If you loved one, you’ll adore the other.

Both anime are about "delivery company" that isn't exactly legal and employes a batch of mismatched characters.

Black Lagoon is a story about a band of modern pirates who do their dirty jobs to survive in a very harsh world. The characters in this series are amazing and just like in Cowboy Bebop, they are rich with both positive and negative traits which make them so alive. The story is also laid out in a similar way: the series is split into short adventures which are gently connected by the main storyline and you find out more about the main characters as you go along.

very similar feel... bounty hunters, syndicates, armed half-dressed women, lots guns, violence, and blood.. if you just finished one series and you are looking for more of the same goodness, watch the other
report Recommended by shinigamidono
Both anime has a dark atmosphere with tons of cussing and good gunfights. Their episodes are episodic; each and every episode telling a different story. Both anime are about hunters trying to get bounties in order to get more money. Both anime has an (almost) useless character (Cowboy Bebop - Edward, Black Lagoon - Rock) as well as a charming but badass + crude-mouthed girl that fights pretty well. (Black Lagoon - Revy, Cowboy Bebop - Faye) Plus, gunfights!

Black Lagoon is similar to Cowboy Bebop in that both series have a crew of characters who go from job to job trying to make ends meet, they both have at least 1 or more characters who come to terms with their past in some way shape or form and they both are full of action packed gun blasting fun that will leave you saying "Wow, how awesome was that!" A little bit of a warning though, there is ALOT of swearing in Black Lagoon so watch with care. Go ahead and give it a shot.

Similar tag team of charismatic bad-asses working in society's underbelly. Lots of action and violence.

Two great show's about freelancer's. The character's are rich and contrast well. And both are filled with great stories and ton's of action. You'll be curious about each event episode by episode while trying to figure out the character's involved over the entire show.

If you like Cowboy Bebop then you would enjoy Black Lagoon also. Both shows contain and lot of action and gun-slinging. Whereas Cowboy Bebop's main obsjective is bounty hunting Black Lagoon is more of a guns for hire.

Cowboy bebop and Black Lagoon are 2 of my top animes that I have watched. Both feature cold blooded protagonists who take no crap from anyone! (Literally, Spike doesn't eat food that is qualified as "Crap.") Black Lagoon has more action, while Bebop has more depth to story while the action happens! Black Lagoon's action can be best described as a zesty gangsta twist. Cowboy bebop's action can best be described as fluid motion with a hint of gunplay. (Ok, maybe more than a hint!) Both animes are excellent! I would watch Bebop before Lagoon to get a real sense for the action that lies   read more

-Each episode has its own small story. -Interesting cast of main characters, all having a generally vague backstory. -Side characters are very interesting as well. -Stylistic action with subtle humor mixed in (not mostly slapstick)

Both shows are very accessible to western audiences. Black Lagoon similarly excels in fusing together different cultures. Both shows excel artistically with great animation and music. Both have a good mix of humor and action that makes for a fun, entertaining watch.

They are more or less the same type of show, except Black Lagoon has story arcs that span multiple episodes unlike Cowboy Bebop in which each episode has its own little story. There are a lot of similar characters too. Revy=Faye, Dutch=Jet, and Benny=Edward(Mainly how they are both computer savvy). They also have the two best English dubs I have ever heard. Overall they are both very good action shows.

Spike is very similar to Rock; they both like to use problems to produce effects for bypassing harm. These anime also like to have people team up with each other, and they have problems shunned.

If you like shoot 'em ups with an element of drama, then look no further. Cowbow Bebop WAS huge back when it was released and is still insanely popular. Revy from Black Lagoon is one of the most bad ass gunslingers out there. Cowboy Bebop is more down to earth despite being sci fi oriented and Black Lagoon, while very emotional at times, is more concerned with filthy mouths, high tempers and taking a good look at people's shittiness.

Love nothing better than gorgeous women, guns and following the adventures of a rag-tag group of people brought together by odd circumstances? Then Black Lagoon is the anime for you! This anime follows the story of a Japanese business man who gets caught in the wrong place at the wrong time where he meets a beautiful, and deadly woman named Revy. Now Revy is my kind of woman; experienced, able to hold her liquor, never says no to a fight, never leaves home without her trusty Beretta M92's and of course has got some fine curves. Rock is your average run-of-the-mill business man who is the   read more

Nonstop action, colorful and believable characters, and the ability to make you want to just keep watching more make these two great anime easily comparable. While Cowboy Bebop is sci-fi and Black Lagoon is not, the pace and general feel of the shows is very similar.

Both these anime have a dark atmosphere around them, but also a good dose of humor and interesting well-developed characters. The cast of each these anime go through many smaller adventures before reaching the finale.

If you take the basics of what each character is, then most of the cast in Black Lagoon are similar to the cast of Bebop. both shows also have the same plot for the most part. (Bounty hunters trying to put food on the table)
report Recommended by BigJackpot777
They both are about bounty hunter trying to earn money. They have a lot of action and have that dark humor. They also have more serious arc.
report Recommended by minouneetzoe
Both shows deal with a freelance, rag-tag group of interesting characters. While on the surface both shows look very different interms of animation and story telling, they do have a similar "feel" to them ("feel" being the most appropriate word I can think of to describe what I mean.) Bebop has a wider array of developed characters and a more upbeat atmosphere. Lagoon however is darker, more mature, has a far deeper overall story arc and far more adrenalin fuelled action. (This is just my opinion.)
report Recommended by Holocat_Zer0
Both have a crew of oddballs taking on jobs and getting in to trouble. A gunslinger motif with action, comedy, and adventure.
report Recommended by Kabniel
Episodic action shows that pay homage to Western media. Their plots both feature a crew of badasses whose main base of operations is a ship (in Bebop its a spaceship). The dubbing in both shows is god tier.
report Recommended by LoveLikeBlood
Black Lagoon shares some distinct similarities with Bebop, ranging from the strong female member to gun fights with various criminal syndicates. Both of these great shows are about a rag tag group doing various jobs for various criminals to make ends meet. Be prepared for frequent, exciting shootouts and exciting adventures every episodes.

In life any job is good, and more with huge rewards. Regardless of the risk that is present, sometimes letting go of the feelings and things of the past, go the teams that conform in Cowboy Bebop and Black Lagoon. In our teams we will find: the one of the computer (the one that does not get physically involved in the work), the girl with curves that knows how to defend herself, the black that drives the ship that knows about weapons and the protagonists that are not the same. Two series that have mini-stories, bows, sometimes no matter in the main plot, but still   read more

I don´t really like comparing cowboy bebop with anything else but the closest anime I have seen is black lagoon. Their similarities: - Awesome fights and martial gun fights, of course black lagoon being somewhat less realistic but not too unrealistic. - Both series being somewhat episodic and still having a plot throughout the series. - There is somewhat a main character but it is more about the small group of people than one character. - About a group of people trying to get food on the table by working a dangerous job (one succeed more than other) - And then there is the heavily theme of the characters´past and   read more

Both are hired guns Both have a slick shooting character Cowboy Bebop is a Cult Classic Black Lagoon has far more cussing Black Lagoon has a larger cast Cowboy Bebop has a more laid back feel at times and gun fights have a different feel to them. (Revy is still the king of shooters in anime)

Another case of 4 gun wielding anti-heroes trying to make it in a crazy world with crazy characters.

Crazy teams that get in messy situation for money - Check Badass MC - Check Shootouts, chases, and explosions - Check Those are the 3 most obvious similarities between those 2. Despite not having much of a plot, the little stories told in every episode and some character background will give you enough reason to love both anime. You just change the setting from Space and Future to Earth and Present time. To sum this up, if you like one of those, you'll get the same action and formula in the other and it's almost certain you'll like it too, especially if you are an Action Movies fan.

A group of mercenaries taking new mission every few episodes for living. action, guns, cool characters.

Both are undoubtedly Classic masterpieces that is impossible to criticize. Both has truly unique, strong & very mature storyline, revolving around some very sophisticated & well written characters, very cool & realistic action/fight scenes that will keep you entertained thorughout the whole series, amazingly detailed & soothing Artwork & Animations that is rarely seen in animes these days & Of course there's those classy kickass soundtracks impossible to ignore. All in all, these two are classy animes that has no equal & there never will be. As they say,Old is gold..Most of the 90's famous animes I've seen yet are really amazing.

One follows a group of 'cowboys' on a space ship, the other follows a group of pirates on a boat. Both very chaotic stories, episodic style, with underlying story. Great characters, music and both full of action.
report Recommended by RyTeOnJohnston16
Both are dark themed crime stories, with lots of violence, action and also a focus on philosophy as well too. And a focus on friendships between characters as well too.
report Recommended by Disapeared_Ghost
While the tone isn't exactly the same, the team dynamic is very similar to that of the Bebop crew. A group of outlaws manage to get by by working together even though they're all lonely, they all have vague pasts that get explored later, and they appear to be a certain way due to differing reasons. There's also the fact that character parallels can be drawn between the main 3 characters of each, which are evident from the first episode of Lagoon alone. I've enjoyed it so far, so I'd definitely recommend checking it out to see if you like it.
report Recommended by TheFlyingOrange
Both of these episodic series are full of memorable characters, great action, and some good music. Even though Black Lagoon is lesser than Bebop in all these areas it doesn't mean the series is bad so to say.

A group of different guys with various skills travel on their spaceship/boat doing mercenary jobs. Guns, fights, crazy action.
report Recommended by Nemo_Niemand
Both of these tell the story of a crew, share their sense of action and episodic storytelling. Same humor, and same sense of mystery about the characters' past. Many characters are very similar from one to another, you can tell Black Lagoon was very much inspired by Cowboy Bebop. The former also has great and strong women characters which you might appreciate.
report Recommended by mogadiscio
similar general vibe both feature characters whos job is to get the job done, crime themes, each episode is a different job. not as good as cowboy bebop and definitely not as classy but it will scratch the itch

Great Show! Fully of action with that great early 2000s/ late 1990s feel! cigarette smoking main characters and a bunch of other similarities. Also, the main theme slaps!
report Recommended by BigNick7
A crew of varied individuals doing whatever is needed of them, not shying away from all sorts of trouble. Both have their share of comedy but excell in the more serious and dramatic department. Black Lagoon is not as strictly episodic as Bebop, but also not really as Arc-focused.
report Recommended by 25robF
Both animes follow a crazy crew and the adventures they take. Black Lagoon company takes on jobs to smuggle and transport illegal goods, and the Bebop crew is a band of intergalactic bounty hunters.
report Recommended by sgoldman449
Both tell bounty hunter stories, in which you can see a development in relation to their past, both have great animation (great action scenes), story and soundtrack.
report Recommended by rosivjr
Both anime features a band of 4 and their day-to-day lives. Cowboy Bebop is a bit more comedic while Black Lagoon is for those who crave action and nothing more.
report Recommended by Mo168
Gritty, dark vibe, the characters are all living on the edge of society. In black lagoon they are criminals and in cowboy bebop they are bounty hunter´s trying to make a living out of it. they both portray a side of life that is hard and not always fair. in addition they bring up some interesting ethical and existential questions that are fun to dwell and think on.
report Recommended by Samujagi
if you liked the soundtrack, animation, art and action, you will like black lagoon much more, it may not have the narrative of some cowboy bebop cap but it is still great and the fights are pure bullets and blows of the good guys, al beginning of the series they say this is not a hollywood movie it is even better and believe me they are not lying, take inspiration from movies like pulp fiction and terminator and others, much of the scenery makes you feel as if you were in a live action.
