Ok then, it is too early to know if it's an all time favourite. I personally say it's not. Logh is top 5 since 1988 so it's safe to assume it deserves more credit.
But it is NOT original just because it's NOT based in a manga. That is also no a risk at all since this way you won't expect fillers and dragging of the plot. Plus, Madoka is just 50% Nanoha with some shocking scenes and improbable tropes thrown in to fool the viewer into liking in. What if I say Madoka is a retteling of Sailor Moon with less duration, less context, less consistency, less quality and less character portraital?
You also claim a 10 must not last too much because it won't be accessible to most? What kind of a logic is this? Most action movies are 5% story and 95% action; does that make them better than the story of the Bible? Could the story of the Bible be told in 3 hours and still have the same effect than all those mini series which last 10 times more? Would spliting the story into 30 minute self-contaimned episodes be better than seeing it as a whole?
Would Star Trek or Babylon 5 be such great series if they lasted only 12 episodes? Forget their story; would you care about the setting or KNOW about the setting or even CARE about its characters if it didn't last for over a hundred episodes? Some stories cannot be contained in just 3 hours or 12 episodes. Just because they are more complicating and require attension from the viewer does not make them inferior to Scooby Doo.
And speaking of mass appeal, why do most people prefer Bakemonogatary to Tatami Galaxy if not for the fan catering. Is Tatami Galaxy less good for not appealing to their guilty pleasure? Stop using mass appeal as an excuse because the masses are not looking for quality but for entertainment.
And before you show your friends both anime, make sure to point out that they use amnesia and time travel as a convinient solution to everything. Then tell them Logh does not have conviniences just so it can end with deus ex machina in 12 episodes.
You have a different value for what a 10 is. I consider it as something "I" place in the top of the top. And LOGH is one of those shows. I really don't care if a show is not accesible to everybody to deserve a 10. In fact the stuff most watch easily are movies like Harry Potter and Twilight. Are those quality-wise better than the Seven Samurai or Network from the 70's? Hardly. They are pop corn material, made simplistic so everybody can follow them even without having a clue of what is going on.
I agree Madoka can make many to change their views of anime. But so did Logh for anybody who sat down to watch it. The difference is, Madoka uses 90% shock factor to scare the viewer into interest, while Logh goes for quality dialogue and character imersion. Just becase some casual viewer can't sit to watch a masterful space opera with the same ease he can watch a pop corn show does not mean Logh is inferior to Madoka.
And you agree Madoka is not original now so edit that part out. As for nothing being original, execution matters more and Madoka did it worse than most others in the past. I mention all that in the review.
As for scores, you seem to care too much about what the majority votes with a 10. Well guess what, the majority has only seen three anime at an average and those are usually Naruto, Pokemon and Yugioh. Of course and they will give Madoka a 10. And am I really supposed to think that a childish comedy like Gintama than mostly advertises Jump comics is the best anime of all times based on ratings? Hardly not.
Stop looking at what others easily watch and vote with a 10. Have a critical thought and watch what YOU like. As for your buddies getting drunk and watching Madoka, well good company they will be for that moment. Does that mean that because they will like it, so should you?
Listen what, show them the first episode of Madoka and then the first of Elfen Lied. I bet they will like the later more. Does that mean Elfen Lied is far better than Madoka? No, it is plain sex and violence winning them. Is sex and violence better than a good story or a developed cast? I think not. Don't confuse guilty pleasure with quality material.

So how did the social experiment go?

That is all for now.
