Just as you described the other two shows really, it's goofy/laidback with a somewhat melancholic undertone, these sort of shows do something to me, though I can understand wanting it to lean more one way. Though it has PS2 like animation thanks to the CGI work the director uses (also did the same thing with Kemono Friends), I enjoyed the aesthetic, others will hate it though.

Yeah, AWC runs the show for me as well lol, controls what I watch until I finish it. That, and the monthly challenge which I've been doing since early 2019.

As far as new favorites, mostly on the manga side really, but that's because I don't have much history or experience with it anyway. Watamote especially, probably the funniest manga I've read so far. The anime is pretty good from memory, if you think cringe loner girl trying to become popular/reinvent herself sounds like fun, you could give it a try XD

I suppose I finally got around to watching Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso last month, having putting it off for years due to semi spoilers/knowing it was tragic, but it was still amazing regardless. Kemurikusa surprised as well, was like a mix of Girls Last Tour and Train at the end of the world.

Hey, long time no speak, how are you? :) I remember seeing you watching Chihayafuru 2 about a week ago and racing through it, what did you think? I can't remember a lot of details about single seasons, as it just flowed from one season to the next from memory, but was this season more competitive in nature, as in tournaments? Is this when Arata is in a slump (or something like that)? Man, it's been too long since I've watched the show.

Hey sorry for being so late with this, but thank you so much for the Secret Santa manga recs! Snow Angel sounds amazing, like absolutely everything I could've asked for in a rec, and I will definitely be starting up on it once I get less busy. I've also been meaning to get on A Silent Voice, and that rec was definitely the push I needed to get on it sooner than I otherwise would have.
Thank you again, I appreciate it a lot! I hope your 2025 has been treating you well so far :)

Haha, no problem. Not everyone is a fan of the studio Shaft aesthetic and direction, I definitely understand. I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts on March Comes In Like A Lion when you get to it eventually, it's also by Shaft, but leaves out the perverseness seen in a lot of their other series. And yeah, juxtaposition is a hell of a drug, seeing two things that don't normally mix (cute girls and guns) is right up my alley, glad you liked it.

Thanks, this was good fun :)

Hello and Happy (late) Holidays!!! I am your Secret Santa Anime Rec Recipient!

Pet shop of horrors was a great first anime of the year and every episode kept getting better and better. It was exactly what I need and fit to my tastes like a glove. As soon as time allows it I will start watching 86 as well. It's been on my radar for a while now but kept being pushed back. Since you reccommended it and i KNOW you're a man of taste, it's for sure my next watch. Thank you for everything ;3

Glad you enjoyed it, I remember thinking it would have probably made me cry as a kid lol. You mean the other anime from Tezuka's Tiger Book series? I haven't checked any of them out myself, could be an easy choice for the upcoming 2025 AWC. Speaking of challenges, are you going to try out the 2025 manga challenge as well? I've been doing the AWC since 2019, but have only recently started reading manga, so I may try it out this year. Part of me thinks it might become too overwhelming though, doing both, may start to feel like a chore. Hopefully they accept one shots lol...

I ended up swapping out Patema Inverted for Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, which turned out to be another incredibly good watch. Uncomfortable, but good. I had been aware of it's existence and general public reaction for some time, but I can't just chuck on an anime with this sort of atmosphere willy nilly, like I do with other shows, I really got to be in the right mood/mindset for such misery and drama. I think the last show I watched with a similar vibe of unease and tension was Scum's Wish, almost two years ago now.

Anyway, happy holidays!

Oof, amusing Taifuu no Noruda review, yeah, that one sucked. I was already getting a bit worn out by the "weather phenomenon" theme in anime when I watched it, this did it no favors. Interesting fact about the female MC, I don't remember her performance at all, never knew she was a young first timer in the VA business.
GakutoDeathGlare Dec 16, 2024 12:19 PM
Haha, no rush. For sure, I am curious as to how much you enjoy those picks (I think only enjoyed two of the picks), a couple of them pretty obscure IIRC
GakutoDeathGlare Dec 15, 2024 3:47 PM
Yeah, I'll definitely check out the 2nd season of Kankin Kuiki Level X at least, they finished the 1st season at a pretty odd place, like a cliffhanger. Make Heroine was an amazing watch though, easily the best thing I've watched for this challenge so far. Dunno why I never picked it up when it was airing, cause it was mostly all I heard about. Glad it lived up to the hype.

Chihayafuru manages to surprise a lot of people lol, myself included. You're in for a treat, it's quality all the way through all three seasons IMO. You know the character writing is good, when such a foreign concept still manages to suck you in and become that immersive. March Comes in Like a Lion is similar in that regard as well.
GakutoDeathGlare Dec 9, 2024 9:48 PM
And I thought I hated Jingai-san no Yome XD I have no doubts that the other anime I chose from your list for the Lazy Santa challenge will be better though lol

Hi! It's alright, I actually nvr put the source on my profile 😅

They're frm a BL manhwa (recently also got a drama adaptation!) called Cherry Blossoms After Winter. Super wholesome, although it does get a lil spicy in Season 3.. :)

Here's the link: https://www.tappytoon.com/en/book/cherrybaw

Enjoy reading it if you do!
