Note: doesn't follow conventional systems, more for categorizing than rating I'd say. Harsh on story writing. An average series has to at least be set apart from its numerous counterparts.
SCORE SYSTEM
10 - 5 features substantial writing while 4 is idiosyncratic and my personal recommendation for shows that are worth a watch. 3 - 1 can be entirely skipped.
10: mind-blowing masterpiece
► hikaru no go
9: exquisite blend of near-perfection
► shigatsu wa kimi no uso
8: hearty works; 80% goodness, 20% flaws but under the same genre as 9 & 10
► world trigger, pop team epic
7: great writing / charismatic
► haikyuu s2, nana maru san batsu, dagashi kashi
6: charming /world building / point addition & subtraction
► fukigen na mononokean, danshikou, suisei no gargantia
5: well-written but ordinary / extremely curious but flawed or bland writing
► ansatsu no kyoushitsu, barakamon, cuticle tantei inaba, nurarihyon no mago
4: curious but flawed writing
► aoharu x kikanjuu, kyoukai no kanata, oushitsu kyoushi heine
3: cliched/subpar writing
► ao no exorcist, gangsta, konosuba
2: literal chuunibyou / doesn't make sense / uncharismatic
► chuunibyou, hitsugi no chaika, joker game
1: hot mess
► charlotte, cross ange
unrated: mostly OVAs and films, but unrated series are either 1) watched a decade ago in my teens or 2) not worth rating
other reasons:
some don't fit these scores exactly bc of point addition/deduction either for plot/character and/or wasted/hidden potential, along with a few strays who can't be cleanly categorized
