Otori and Neko Shiro were pretty decent in SS as well.
Also to correct myself, it was the end of Otori where Aragai mentioned the Owari 2 events not Oni of course.
Edit: Eh no, it was actually the end of Oni which plays somewhere around the Otori timeline. I'm getting confused...
Because in Neko Shiro, Araragi wasn't the narrator for the first time and I think he mentioned this side story just to show that Araragi has a busy live and we're not going to see every little thing he does. Same with his relationship with Hitagi.
Now, I wanted to know what was going on as well and the fact that Kanbaru was part of it was enough for me like the novel... But I also expected something completely different. I interpreted Araragi's comment about this (in Oni I think) as such that he didn't want to mention it because it was such a terrible experience, and not because it was basically "nothing". I mean it is relevant to the story, but I though with Kanbaru involved, and some implied danger, that it would be another action focused novel like Kizu or some of the earlier stories.
That said, the last novels didn't went the direction I expected them to go at all....
Dunno why you mentioned Oni, probably because it's the worst? If so, then I think that Oni is still worse than Owari 2. I'm looking forward to the anime because sometimes the boring parts of the novels work better in the anime. Like the Oni anime was actually more fun the Kabuki. And both Kabuki and Koi ended up being the weaker parts of the anime unlike their novel counterparts. Or Hana being one of the best.

You don't have to watch something you don't want to. It's completely up to you.
I know I get extremely annoyed by complete fangirls and fanboys of AoT (I am using the English translation because who the fuck cares) because they scream "Attack on Titan a;daf;sdf" everywhere they go and it is such a fucking ear-sore. But for me, personally, I watched the show because of the hype. Of course, in my opinion, it is WAY over hyped but it is still a good show.
It's weird because when I say that AoT is over hyped, people think that I don't like the show, which isn't true. But it is certainly not nearly close to one of my favorites. Far from it actualy.
P.S. didn't mean to sound like I was forcing you to do anything, it's just the way I talk.
You can't really have a valid opinion a show unless you've seen a good amount of it, like a whole season (12 episodes).
How much of this show have you watched?
