A 10 means a title is as close to perfection as possible. Hunter x Hunter had too many minor issues that could have been fixed easily with some simply QC.
Granted these flaws didn't really impact on my overall enjoyment of the series, but they do affect my overall score.
I have to disagree with you on the last part. Reviewers should consider the pro's and con's of the whole rather than picking and choosing the parts they like and ignoring the rest. Personal bias causes unfairness in reviews - which is why I try to take a step back and consider the show as a whole and in its constituent parts before putting pen to paper.
Anything else would be unfair.
Actually Vader's rationale was explained well enough in A New Hope, and his character was further developed in The Empire Strikes Back with the revelation of who he actually is - and what that meant for Luke.
I have to ask, have you read any Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, Miss Marple, etc? The battle of wits you mentione was handled rather well, but I'd hesitate to put it on the same level as Holmes versus Moriarty.
I see that you're watching Monster. How would you compare it to Death Note, as from my perspective it's everything that the latter show aspired to be - only without the juvenile pretentions.
There are several fundamental holes in the plot (one of them being that Light is the only person in the school looking out of the window during class), a lead character who is supposed to be mature and thoughtful but has a very childish view of good and evil, right and wrong, etc, and final portion that really shouldn't have been there.
If the story had ended with L's death, then I would have scored it higher, but doing something like allowing the "bad guy" to win isn't something that studios, directors and writers are comfortable with.
The need to take a few lessons from The Empire Strikes Back.
