I have MSN, it is spupapi@hotmail.com
Sorry for late reply, I am on the vacation in China and I don't have much time or rather, I do not spend much time on computer.
By the way, sorry for my bad english. It is not my primary language, but I can speak well, just when it comes to serious subjects such as philosophy, my english worsen.
I have mentioned few times in forums that I follow path of the Tao. Of course, I have chosen to be Taoism with consciousness of what Tao is. I am also very aware of what Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Confuciasm and some major religions are about, thus I was able to choose one, correctly in my mind.
Indian and Chinese philosophy are similar to each other, like the most of major religion and philosophies. Most of them speak of peace, virtuous, morals. Ideals of christianity, hindu, buddhism, Taoism, are all similar. The great achievement of their, is to become good and moral person.
Or maybe, it'd be more accurate to say "all of them have something in common".
Someone might say "of course lol, what kind of religion are there that prefer evil?" There are.
Anyway to what I wanted say, all of them may sound very different, but the concept is pretty much same. Major religions want to make the world better. Better in way to be peaceful, respecting and loving. Some uses the name of god, spirits, supernatural beings to speak of good and morals and some not (Confucianism uses the name of people, to speak about morals and virtuosity and same goes for Taoism).
God of christianity is really close to what Tao is. You don't think so? Because christians describes their god confusingly and very differently. When you read Bible, christians describe God as him. People sometimes are confused, who is god? Does he has shape? Can I see him? Why won't god help me? He is cruel, he is loving and so on. And why do we refer to the god as him and not as it? It would be more suitable for us to call the god, it. If you ever have read the bible, you might notice how each of the saint describe the god. And sometimes it is really confusing. Sometimes someone describe god as for being everywhere yet it is nowhere, pretty close to Tao right? But then, there are those, who claims that the god watches over you and listen to you. What? So what is he? I mean, the original idea should just be original. The bible is full of nonsense that disciples of Jesus has written and they do not interest me. I tend to criticize the church and it's members, but not the belief, not Jesus and his god. It would be nice if people followed what Jesus tought instead of Church, even though they claim to be following god. I hate christianity church just as I hate communism and soviet union.
The Bible also gives us incomprehensible reason, why we should never know the gods real name: "because god doesn't want to, because god said so, because he will punish you if you do so".
Tao Te Ching (sacred book of Taoism) gives quite reasonable answer to why we should not know real name of Tao. As my signature says "The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal name. The nameless is the beginning of heaven and Earth. The named is the mother of the ten thousand things."
Lao Tzu say, that there's no the end without beginning, and no beginning without the end. And Tao is never-ending, eternal, thus it has no beggining nor the end.
They also say, god loves you, but you have to help yourself. Tao Te Ching does not say that the Tao loves you nor it hates you. But it speaks of harmony of the world and Yin Yang. Meaning, in order to achieve anything, you have to help yourself, no greater power nor supernatural power will ever help you to achieve anything.
God is nowhere, yet everywhere; Tao is nowhere, yet everywhere.
^ Christian God and Tao are more similar to each other than we might think. People of different cultures just describe those two differently.
Also, having faith in God is much easier than having faith in Tao. Actually, what does it mean to have faith in Tao?
Taoism is not cruel, but fair. God loves you... that's what you would hear from the most of the people who follows god. In fact, he is just quite simply same like Yin Yang. He doesn't love anyone more and anyone less. He is just being fair and people refer it as "love".
He listens to you, pray and your wish will be granted. This fact is just simply nonsense and untrue. In moment when the wish is not granted, the person who has prayed will loose the faith. But once the wish is granted, the person starts to have a greater faith in god more than he did have before. But, this was psychologicaly explained. When we wish for something and really want it, the thought just stay in our memory, thus once it happens we suddenly think it was gods doing. But even if we didn't wish it, prayed, the exact thing would happen without us noticing we ever had wished for it, unless your prayer have any great influence on your behaviour and action. Also, the fact that he "listens" to you, makes you feel stronger and the fact that he "loves" you, makes you feel more worthy as human being. Because, feeling unworthy and not important makes people desperate and then it might lead to desperate action, such as commit suicide.
That's why I said, people over-idealize and confusingly describe god.
I assume you know what Yin and Yang, Tao and wuwei is about right? So you might know what I mean by having faith in Taoism is harder than having faith in God.
They don't work in MAL system, it is being fixed so staff has disabled for time being. To me, living a life only just because to find truth through proofs, is boring. Thanks to Taoism the science got advanced in old China. Philosophy about hexagrams, yin and yang, elements and so on, that's science of Taoism. Actually, religions in the world has contributed to the world a lot, that includes arts, philosophy and science.
By the way, do you believe in god, or are you in any religion?
I have read the thread "Do you believe in afterlife?" or something like that. I have to say, it is old thread and I have read it already. Why so suddenly adding me now to your friends? Why not back then at least. Anyway back to the topic "afterlife". All I can say, that I have read Bamans post many times and only can say about him that his ideals are very different from mine. And he really does believe in what he says. So I pretty much figured it would be useless to argue with him. He believes in science and reality, I believe that science is great but not beautiful and that great as spiritual beliefs. But none of them are wrong nor are correct in all aspects. Thus you cannot argue about it, or it will end up like before - long and useless loads of texts.
Did you know, that lie becomes an ultimate truth if everyone believes in it? That is how I see science.
sorry that I can't send you personal massages but it is disabled for time being as far as I know. Anyway, I have been away for few days and couldn't access to my PC. I didn't really kept up with latest posts in forum so I don't know what is happening and so on - forgive me for not backing you up. I'll read the topic "afterlife" and see.
No problem. I really like Art History so I'm always happy to talk about it and since woodblock prints are something that I'm going to be learning more about I felt like I couldn't not reply.
