My ratings are (generally) 60% quality-based and 40% enjoyment-based. Usually anything 8 and above are things I genuinely enjoyed and will recommend watching (depending on who you are). I may actually like some things with an 8 more than those with a 9, but I just happen to consider some honest flaws in the show (which I may not have actually minded). Then again, sometimes I consider the grade based on how well the show "did what it was supposed to do".

Sometimes the ratings can change after I think about it for a few weeks; most of the time I recommend reading the "notes" for each anime. And yes, I enjoy blatantly commercial bog-standard anime! I don't have "good taste" in the least bit and don't intend to develop one any time soon.

:D! i've never seen Porco Rosso - had the impression that, as one of the more obscure Ghibli films, it was hard to find. but there are lots of Ghibli films i've yet to watch anyway...

Well I am still watching it as you can see from my last list updates but I ended up being disappointed with it story-wise.

As for anime I think you will like well there is Casshern Sins. Of course there is still 7 episodes left so maybe it's too early to recommend it but I am enjoying the story and the visuals and animation are stunning (plus it has a really nice OST as a bonus)

There is also Natsume Yuujinchou (which I talk about on my LJ enough) okay that doesn't have the best animation but it's a really nice peaceful & laid back series with nice episodic stories.

But those are my top two recommendations for new anime. :)

I finally got around to checking out the first episode of Kaiba. Just from the music alone and i'm completely amazed. I'm looking forward to more of this.
