There've been times when I heard a word being used or read one somewhere that piqued my curiosity, so I looked it up and remembered the definition of it. For example, I only heard the word "dovetail" being used more frequently a few years back, and I had a general idea of what it would mean. looking it up, I decided it was one worth remembering because of the way it created a visual descriptor for me when reading it in a sentence. Words could be like paints on a canvas or a type of material, creating interesting colors or textures.

Practice, practice, practice. It's a cliche to say that but trust me, that's all there is to it. Find more precise ways of expressing your thoughts and ideas. Broad words and terms can have easy fixes.

For example, instead of saying the boy was "happy" to get his x-mas gift, say the boy was "elated" to get his x-mas gift. Both words communicate the same idea; however, one better describes joy beyond an everyday occasion. Small changes like that will go a long way.
