Yeah I watched it! I don't like it as much as the original SAC, but it's definitely imo the best GITS to come out since SAC 2nd Gig. It's crazy to me that a lot of people don't like it. I feel like a lot of people are too caught up with the aesthetics of it and such, CGI, character designs, the names and references they use like "posthumans," the music, etc. People seem so paranoid that because it looks different that it's "selling out" or "dumbed down" or something, yet all they can criticize it for is all this superficial stuff. Like if it's dumbed down, then what about it is dumb, aside from apparently how it looks? I feel like the writing and scenarios are pretty near as good as before. Personally I don't really think it looks bad at all either, although the Major's character design isn't what I would've picked per se lol

I saw your signature with Niki from Ever Green - I thought no one actually read that. Guess I was wrong. Then I checked your profile page and saw a large pic from Hibi Chouchou, so I knew I needed to comment.

I went through a similar but somewhat opposite journey. I was introduced to the Love Hina manga (somehow) and so I built on a foundation of shoujo first and spread out from there. Huge fan of Horimiya, Kimi ni Todoke. Just watched Hellsing Ultimate last week. Came across Girl Friends (Milk Morinaga) as my intro to Yuri. If you haven't read/watched Toradora yet, I HIGHLY recommend it.

Ah.. I actually do the opposite with slice of life/school/romance for the most part... lol I just can't bring myself to sit down and binge read them very often for some reason. The anime are all so much shorter and I feel like I get a good sense of what the series is about. Really though I haven't watched too many... and I have a handful that I started reading but never finished, not because I didn't like them, but they're just so long.

The slapping in Utena is ridiculous and notorious. There are apparently 28 slaps total, Anthy gets slapped the most at 9 times, and almost all of the times she gets slapped are at the beginning of the series for some reason lol. It gets more crazy as it goes on, I will say. There are always kind of comedyish episodes/moments thrown in though too.

our anime affinity is so high but our manga is so low ;( it's just because I jokingly gave punpun a 1 though.

Hey, thanks! Glad you like the review. Happiness is such a huge dip in quality for that particular mangaka. His new series is great so far though. Hopefully he sticks the landing this time haha.

Yeah I found the manga first too. True that the show is so far a very good adaptation. Hope it stays that way and hope it keeps lots of emphasis on the play and the mask theme
