Reiner should have died because of the situation the author put him in. I agree that it's better for the narrative if he continues living, however when the good guys let him live for no other reason than plot armor it comes off as extremely cheap. That's what I meant by "the author puts himself into a corner", he wants to have the cake and eat it too. He wants to have tension and the feeling that characters can die, but then he uses ridicolous plot armor that removes all tension from future fights. How do we know every conflict from now on won't end with a draw with 0 results?

Also, a fantasy setting(or any other for that matter) still means the show needs to follow the internal rules that the author himself has set up. Otherwise, what's the point of criticizing anything when I can respond to any criticism on any show by saying: "It's all made up anyway, nothing is real because we're just watching pixels on the screen".
