Hey there. I would agree with you that Asano's characters seem to be inspired from people he knows, and his own experiences. You'll notice in some of his other manga that there are characters that are extremely similar to each other(almost like recurring characters). You'll most likely love his other manga too.
I notice you call Asano a she, which I'm sure is because of MAL's description. I follow him on twitter, and I honestly think that whole thing is a bit of a misunderstanding that no one has bothered to clear up. He is working on a manga that deals with transgenders, and made some comments about how he admires them and was researching about it. I wouldn't have any problems with him deciding to go through with that if that's what he wants, but I don't think he is. He still has facial hair, and acts like a guy.
So I don't know why MAL goes as far as to already start referring to him as a female. I have a feeling he would probably find it pretty funny. Sorry for the long message lol.
