I like a five-star rating system rather than 10 stars, so my scores basically mean:
10 - A total masterpiece that comes back to my thoughts often. I usually don't give this on a first viewing, but need some time to see how it affects me after watching.
8 - A very good show that has a lot of interesting moments and ideas running throughout in a well-presented format. This could be a show that knows what it wants to do and does it well, or something that has the potential of becoming a ten.
6 - A perfectly fine show that has some positives and negatives to it. This show may not be worth rewatching, but I definitely enjoyed myself with the time I spent on it.
4 - The difference between a four and six is probably how much I would recommend it to other people. If I like for my own weird reasons despite its many flaws, then it gets a four.
2 - A painful experience with I guess enough bright spots or some really particular reason for me to go through to the end with it. I just hope to avoid seeing a show like this altogether.
0 - A show with a 0 star rating (or 1 given MAL's scale) is something so bad that I could not go through finishing it. That to me seems like a failure of art and I doubt I will ever need to actually use this.

Consider using a rating system the site you are using uses, at least when making a rating for reviews. This way you're just sending a message that the series is bad. And yes, lot of people don't even read the text of the reviews, just look at the numbers.
