And I just got back from Rome in Italy which was a really cool city:



I think people in the west are interested in anime and manga but at the same time they are put off by otaku pandering stuff, kawaii art (cute things are seen as mostly for kids here) and the notion that animation is for children and not adults.

Shame people see it like that because I prefer hand drawn animation over live action cinema most of the time. I like Japanese anime but I think the medium isn't realizing its own potential by pandering so much to the "otaku" niche. I do admire the Japanese sense of aesthetics/beauty and a lot of the art your culture has produced. The thing I like most about Japanese anime is how it portrays that intense immersion, for example in Hyouka, Ghost in the Shell, Garden of words, and how creatively artistic it can be for example, Utena, Madoka magica and the monogatari series.

So overall I'm having a lot of fun with it and I plan to visit Japan at some point, I wish there were more anime produced and I wish more of it was aimed at an older audience. Does it seem like anime is becoming more popular in Japan, is the image changing a bit perhaps?

Well most japanese cannot hold a conversation in english at all afaik so I would say you are quite good in the context of your nationality.

Oh yeah? Well I wouldn't draw too many conclusions about foreign countries based on those websites, most people who frequent them are weirdos lol.

Anyway it's rare to see an actual japanese person on an english-speaking website about japanese animation so I had to reach out. How are things going over there, why did you drop out of college bro?
