I haven't finished the LN yet, so I can't really answer your question, but in the third book they talked for a little while about the fact that not everything has to be logical, so maybe that's the point they tried to make with shinya and akane (or maybe I'm just trying to justify a plothole with some bullshit idk). other than that, I totally understand your critique.

Hello!! Gosh it's been years since I wrote the review, I'd actually forgotten I wrote it (and it feels awfully pretentious now that I read it help)

But glad to hear you were intrigued anyway! I love Natsume Yuujinchou with all my heart - I'd say it is rather similar to Mushishi in the sense that it starts off fairly slow-paced and episodic. But I find that this helps build up for the later seasons when there are longer arcs with more action (and the animation just gets better and better), and the character development is really well done.

I highly doubt that we'll end up going to Mars in our lifetimes when we can't even go back to the moon yet. Sure, there are plans to go back to the moon, but I highly doubt anyone will actually do it with the world economy being shit. Chinese rockets aren't good enough. The only ones that can reliably put people into space are the Russians and Americans. Anything American is going to be really expensive, so that's why the US has been buying from Russian despite the constant vilification from the government and the media. The costs for Russian space flight would be even lower if they had territory closer to the equator, but Russia has never been blessed with geography.

You could always go on a date with truck-kun. I'm sure he'll gladly send you there in a heartbeat. :P

Elon Musk is not really a successful business man, just really good at making the government subsidize whatever project he wants to do. Tesla would be bankrupt if it weren't for government support and SpaceX only has money because the US government willingly overpays just so they don't have to use the much cheaper Russian Soyuz. Even the rocket boosters they use to send up satellites are Russian made.

The early and middle medieval periods were really bad for most people, but the late medieval wasn't that bad. Of course nothing comes close to the convenience that we have now, but you also have to deal with a lot of BS that you simply didn't have to deal with even in the early 20th century. You didn't have to deal with the government and google spying on every single thing you do on the internet back in those simpler times.

And the thing about fantasy is that you can just handwave all that pesky nuisances like reality. You can't have a world dominated by airships in a medieval or steampunk setting in reality. You also can't have stuff like magic. Fantasy is simply better.

The Catholic Church has been corrupt for a very long time. It's no surprise that the Crusaders destroyed the Byzantine Empire for 50 years when the church had told them all their lives that everyone else were heretics. That stupid prince that promised them all the riches in the world if they made him emperor when he couldn't deliver was just an excuse. It's no wonder that Orthodox Christians still haven't forgotten the betrayal of their supposedly fellow Christians.

The reason why life was much simpler back then is because we didn't have to deal with corrupt mega corporations that control virtually every aspect of our lives. Even what we consider democracy is a joke because the politicians in power gate keep in order to keep people out and you need a shit ton of money to even be considered. Money that mostly comes from "donations" from corporations. Is it any wonder that medieval fantasy is one of the most popular genres? Life simply really suck these days.

Sorry, I don't play World of Tanks. While the West have always looked toward really expensive tech to improve their weapons, Russians have always valued simplicity and reliability over complicated stuff. One of the main reasons for this is that the Russian defense industry is state owned, while the West have to rely on private companies that will gladly fleece the hell out of the taxpayer. The F35 is simply a disaster that no other country wants to buy. Problem is that there's too much money invested into that junk that the US has no choice but to keep using it. It's really telling when the US has to force other countries to buy something that's supposed to be "one of the best in the world."

Most people hate history, but history is one of my favorite subjects. I used to intrigued by Ancient and Medieval history, but I've sort of taken a break from it lately. There's only so much you can read about the same thing before you need a break. I am fascinated building and agricultural techniques before the modern era, though.

Yeah... uh... I don't really care about the state of the world right now. The world just really sucks right now. Everything has gone to shit and I can't even do whatever I want to do anymore because of the stupid lockdowns and social distancing. Every time I read about current events, it's always one shitty thing after another. The world of the past was just much simpler back then.

I do have a preference for Russian tanks and other military hardware, but I don't really read too much into it as I do world history. The T90 is a great tank compared to the overpriced, high-maintenance western tanks. The M1 Abrams is a horrible all-rounder tank, but it was designed as a mobile fortress to move to one short distance and just stay there, so I guess it fulfill its design perfectly.

True enough. Maybe i should have my personal "pet peeves" in the dislikes section rather than objectively hateable things.
