I rate shows primarily on my own personal enjoyment while viewing plus how much of a lasting impression is left, whether that be from lofty artistic appreciation or simple amusement. I highly favor shows that possess quick pacing, as well as one or more of the following: quality action animation, satisfying combat choreography, striking visual design or atmospheric personality, unique and cohesive worldbuilding, or personal philosophical resonance regarding existentialism or human relationships. I am highly annoyed by narrative blue-balling, unsatisfying payoffs, shitty action choreography, arbitrary/inconsistent power levels, inexplicable harems, and general sexual pandering. I like when shows try to do something different, though I also believe that a time tested trope executed with sufficient expertise and grace can be just as enjoyable or worthwhile as the most poignant artistic statement.

10 - Made me experience a truly profound emotion and new sense of perspective

9 - Every second is enjoyable and the best parts make me uncontrollably smile. I would watch it again without hesitation

8 - Does something truly unique or exceptional, but not perfect otherwise

7 - A good time all around. High highs and no severe lows

6 - Frequent good moments that stumble just short of greatness with significant drawbacks

5 - Decent to good ideas mostly lacking in execution. Just barely good enough to feel like my time is not being totally wasted

4 - A few appealing concepts that are rarely satisfyingly realized and overshadowed by glaring frustrations

3 - Either generic bargain bin trash or completely missing the mark. Barely enjoyable at the best of times, and in only the most disposable, surface level ways possible

2 - What the fuck is this mess. This is only enjoyable insofar as it is bafflingly terrible.

1 - The world is actually a worse place because this exists and it disgusts me

Since I have not yet seen any anime that I would rate lower than a 4, since stuff that bad or not to my taste is generally recognizable at first glance and I don't watch it, I will provide some examples from western media because why not. I would give a 3 to most corporate Hollywood schlock, a 2 to the Desmond stories from Assassin's Creed 2 and 3, and a 1 to 13 Reasons Why.
