If you've never seen, heard, or read anything made before 1990, then your opinion probably doesn't mean much to me.
Grading Scale
*note - this is simply how I view these scores. A 5 for me might be a 7 for you, and vice-versa. I believe nearly all works of fiction have some merit, even ironically, so if you disagree with a score of mine feel free to tell me why as long as you're not a dick in the process.
10 - As close to perfection as possible. One of a kind. Must see.
9 - Next best thing to a masterpiece. Either did almost everything it wanted to perfectly, or surpassed its limits
8 - A great work, definitely enjoyable and shows clear merit.
7 - A solid above average work with some ambition.
6 - Good. Just good.
5 - Average. Stagnating in between good and bad.
4 - An attempt was made.
3 - Very little ambition though there is clear effort, takes no risk and is purely mediocre/bad.
2 - Pretty close to awful but there's at least something to enjoy.
1 - Absolutely no merit, artistic or otherwise. Better off never having been made.
Perfect 10's
UNFORGIVABLE (A score of 1)
My name is Marc, I play fighting games competitively. I also co-host an animation podcast on Fanoff.com, check it out if that sounds up your alley.

Heh, you're aware that Gordeau was one of the dirtiest fighters in MMA history? In his match against Royce Gracie, he bites him on the ear. This in turn causes Royce not to relinquish the choke at the end. When Royce gets up after the referee finally convinces him to let go, he is clearly pissed off and you can see his ear bleeding. However, all of that pales when compared to his fight against Yuki Nakai. Nakai ended up being completely blind in one of his eyes because Gordeau gouged it out with his big toe (Nakai was around Gordeau's leg for most of the fight, trying to get a heel hook).
Also, best of luck at CEO, man! Are you planning to do a lot of money matches? That would definitely be the most unique entrance theme of any player, too.
"I'm also playing a bit of DBFZ, though I'm nowhere near as good at it, it's a very fun game and I'm pretty tight with the whole scene down here."
Heh, this reminds me of the non-stop rants and complaints of a certain DarkSydePhil against that game...
And that's excellent; definitely give streaming a go if you're playing a lot to begin with. Send me your Twitch channel when you do; I'll check it out.
I love quoting his signature line myself, although it doesn't look as cool when I pull off my clip-on shades.
Congrats on the Tekken success! The only game in the series that I played and learned to a respectable competitive level was Tekken 3; I sometimes wish I had focused on that series more than 2D fighters. Are you going to Evo this year?
And yeah, there have been some tough patches for me too in the past few years, but as the saying goes; "tough times don't last, but tough men do".
Also, love the avatar of Ninjitsu master Harold Clarence Howard, who wowed the UFC with his dirty wifebeater, ugly teeth, crazy frontflips, and epic interviews!
He's one of my absolute favorites from that time period, although I think "Polar Bear" Paul Varelans will always be number one in my heart.
Well, that's true of most people in their 20s. You still have a chance to make your millions!
"I've actually got a regular podcast I'm doing on animation as a whole, we cover a different series/movie every week, not just anime."
Oh yeah? What's the link? I tried to visit Fanoff.com itself, but my antivirus warned me it was a phishing website. And I like some animated works that aren't anime, too. For instance, I love claymation as a medium.
"I've also become more of a cinephile over time. For instance, I recently discovered Tarkovsky's works and Stalker is now one of my favorite films."
Heh, you have seen more Tarkovsky than I have, then!
In terms of anime/manga, I haven't watched or read anything significant in a long time, although I would like to change that. Still, I haven't even been watching that many live action movies or TV series (although I did go through the first 6 seasons of "Game of Thrones" recently); been trying to concentrate on reading more books.
Anything significant I've missed in terms of recent anime series that I should watch? I know about older works, like Texhnolyze or Legend of the Galactic Heroes...
Hey man, if you're re-watching Durarara, make sure to watch Baccano, it's made by the same author and studio, and it shares many similarities im how the story is set out (jumps from one set of characters to the other) in my opinion, it's better but that's all down to preference as my sister prefers Durarara. Also having a GF that's into anime sounds awesome.
Also how is Eureka Seven? I'm 10 episodes in, and whilst I do like it, some of the episodes have been filler, and very average filler at that, I hope it gets much better because I've heard great things, visually and music wise the show is beautiful.
