Hmm iirc she did say that she has done a complete makeover between her transition from middle school to high school. I guess she didn't have the best experience in middle school hence wanting to enjoy youth at its peak in high school, and typically it's all about romance and adventure. She has had her fair share of heartbreak and it's part of the adventure of getting her together with You. That's part of her "lesson" you could say, that she shouldn't be obsessed with love and let love come to her naturally. That's when I think she fell in love with You.

Hello, I just read your review of Koukou Debut, and I may be wrong on this because it has been a while since I actually read the series, but I think the whole "wanting to have a boyfriend" when she enters high school is just her wanting to experience "youth that everyone else is enjoying", it's by no mean trying to portray girls in negative light, or that they "couldn't survive without men".
