Romance is my favorite genre, and despite the good ratings, I REALLY disliked Nodame and Kimi Ni
Nodame I rated so low because while it was a more "mature" series, the main character drove me nuts. She is one of those airheaded stupid girls that drools over a guy that doesn't really pay attention to her. I prefer my protagonists to be a bit more than a dumb empty shell used to fawn over the lead male. Idk..she just didn't do it for me.
Kimi Ni I very much disliked because I felt it had no substance. I just said this is another thread. The plot is basically the most boring female character in a shoujo series becomes obsessed with the most boring male in a shoujo series and spends every episode thinking about how much better he made her life now that he has noticed her. I suppose the series would best appeal to people who like "realistic" love stories, but I just found it dull. I had to force myself through what parts of the manga/anime I did see.
I hope that helps. I know I sound like a super downer, haha!
I loved it all the way through. I guess it depends on what you like about the show on whether its good at the end or bad. Either way, its worth seeing all of it, it really is a good show. : )
I felt the series kind of dragged, or the pace gotten a bit slower from the half way point. There was a lot of moodiness with the 3 teens and I kept being reminded how there was no way this series could have a definitive ending (as the credits rolled from each episode) to explain Izaya's wackyness, what's going to happen with Celty's head, and the stuff you already mentioned like Shinra's dad.
Guess there might be a second season, but I'm satisfied of this season.
I'm curious as to why you gave Baccano a 3. Not that I'm the type of guy who argues about his favorite shows and try to force his opinion to others, I'm merely curious. :x

I'll have to watch Satoshi Kon's other films, especially Paprika, which I've heard great things about.
