Happy Birthday!

I wonder if you having Baki as your top anime is in any way related to our wrestling conversations. Lol.

Yeah, you'll have to do some serious leveling up and become like, the All Might and Deku of anime watching. My hero :)

I don't think Yoshi games will ever let you down or disappoint in any way. You can expect engaging and involving gameplay, and in a fun and colorful way, like Nintendo have the knack for creating.

I remember the Ninja Turtles game on the NES being seriously good for the time and in comparison to other games from that era. I remember pizza slices being the main powerup lol.

In my day the big WWF stars were Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, Brett Hart, and The Undertaker. I think that was the pinnacle. Coincidently, I was reading this in-depth Telegraph (online newspaper) article about the life story of the British Bulldog, just recently. It was really interesting. Something funny though is that one of my earliest memories is of my Grandma watching old-school British wrestling on the telly - when Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks were the superstars. That stuff really was from a golden era and it was also surprisingly and unintentionally comical, and sometimes farcical, as well.

Yeah, I still play with the collectible action figures and use the lunchboxes every day. Joking. I had lots of merch. from those franchises as a kid though, but nothing that I've still got now. Oh, and The Simpsons was one of my early favorite animated shows. Perhaps it set the current for the future regarding me and anime. My first cartoon was He-Man and She-Ra though. Actually, there's been a new US revision/reboot/fresh adaptation of She-Ra called She-Ra and The Princesses of Power. It's a really enjoyable and well-created action series with a good dose of funny comedy moments. Speaking of which, what's your experience of US animated series? I have my favorite 10 listed on my profile under my Rukia pics.

Konosuba was an all-around enjoyable show to watch and I rewatched it myself, only recently. Woah, 1000 anime. I can't imagine ever getting that far at the pace I watch. For reference - it's taken me the last year and a half to complete the last 50 titles on my list. You have lofty ambitions indeed and I guess you already have that target in mind.

Flying cars and going underwater sounds like a lot of fun and a cool new innovation. I suppose they were looking for a new spin to put on the old, much loved formula. I remember being big into Yoshi's Island on the N64 (addictive and enthralling gameplay) and I just saw an ad come up the other day for a Yoshi-themed game on the Nintendo Switch. I guess they keep releasing updated versions of old classics like Super Mario, Mario Kart, Yoshi, and Zelda all the time.

Other big games at the time of the original Mario and Sonic (from my memory) would be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, WWF (wrestling), and The Simpsons - all on the NES. Also, those aforementioned 3 franchises were all MASSIVE around that time - TV, action figures, clothing, catchphrases, lunch boxes, the whole kaboodle lol.

Massive melons and humungous peaches. You're definitely sharing something of your personal tastes there :P

I preferred Konosuba season 1 and the first OVA to the 2nd season/OVA. Aqua had many fine moments. The working, feasting, drinking montage with Aqua throwing up rainbows made me laugh. Y'know, one of the finest episodes was the 1st OVA with the chocker necklace thingy where Kazuma had the girls trying to fulfill his every wish, whim, and desire - because his life literally depended on it lol.

Yeah, Mario Kart on the SNES and N64 was super addictive. It was my fave driving game. It was easy to pick up but there were sufficient levels of complexity and tricks to master. I remember Rainbow Road being the hardest because you could so easily fall off the side. Don't know anything about the current Mario Kart though. What's it like, or your experience of it? How does it compare with the earlier versions?

Tbh that screenshot of the very first Super Mario Bros looks visually similar to some of the best Commodore 64 games lol. I think it was just the case of the NES having better games with better playability, rather than it being leaps ahead visuals-wise. Also, I remember a joystick for the C64 having like one single button on it. It really was that rudimentary. The NES having 2 buttons was literally doubling the complexity. And then with the SNES there were 4 buttons. It was mind-blowing at the time.

This is a screenshot of one of my fave C64 games, called Bubble Bobble. It had great playability.

What kinda fruit would H be though? Maybe the melons and bananas hahahahaha.

Yeah, I get what you mean about that kinda thing saving the world. That reminds me of what Kazuma says in Konosuba when he's offered the services of a succubus that can fulfill any fantasy he desires. He says something like, if everyone had access to this then there would be no more wars lol. Speaking of which, what's your opinion of Konosuba? Any favorite moments or characters?

I think I was like 6 when I started with the Commodore 64. I loved the Mario games and Mario Kart on the SNES and N64. And I even remember playing the first Super Mario Bros on the NES at a rich friend's house, when I had the C64 lol.

What do you think of the graphics? It was state-of-the-art for the time, though.

Haha. Yeah, dried, canned, frozen, juiced, and fresh anime all count ;)

There are some things I definitely am a completionist for. For some anime things and some musical artists/singers/bands. With anime, anything I give 9's and 10's to would be something where I'd want to watch every single thing and also maybe own. Do you own much anime and manga yourself? I stopped buying about 5 years ago but have a couple of drawers full of stuff (I've been watching for 11 years). I've been a steamer since then.

Hentai artists love Yor! And how would you know about that? I'm quite surprised you would share something naughty like that!! I guess that would put the title Spy x Family into a whole new context lol.

I've not seriously played any video games since I was a teenager. I was massively into them back then though. I've been thinking about getting myself a portable, like a Nintendo Switch, or maybe just trying out some games on my laptop or iPad. The following will make you laugh at how old I am (in my 30's). My first games system was a Commodore 64 where you could load games from a cassette tape lol. It also had the option of using plug-in cartridges but they were way more expensive. I suppose the cool thing was that you could buy new (cassette tape) games for a couple of quid, which was like your weekly pocket money back then. Or, if you only had £1 a week pocket money, you could go half-half with your brother. Lol. Them were the days. A few years after that I made a big transition to a SNES (woah, mind-blowing), then a few years after that, a step up to the first PlayStation. Then a few years after that a step up to the latest and most powerful console, an N64 (Nintendo 64). I think my younger brother traded that in for a Sega Saturn, but I'd already left home for Uni by that point. What systems have you owned or played? Which one has been your favorite? I'd say I had the most fun on the Nintendo 64.

13 is quite a rare feat for me but I do try to aim for at least a couple a day, minimum. Maybe 5 would be a good amount. Like your 5-a-day fruit and veg quota.

I'm not OCD regarding completionism but I enjoyed some elements of Re:Zero enough to want to continue further with it.

Yeah, more Yor time would be nice. I think it would further strengthen her credentials as a waifu :)

I watch on my laptop but I used to enjoy using an iPad a few years ago (and using the touch screen to type on MAL) so I might buy a new one and then alternate between the two depending on my mood. How about you?

You're going at an unbelievable pace through One Piece. I'd say that would be impossible for me at this stage in my life. It would be too much to process. I did 13 episodes of Shadows House and Saiki K. yesterday which is maybe the highest single-day amount for me in some time. I don't think I could manage 13 episodes regularly though. Usually, it's more like half that amount.

Yeah, I think I've heard some rumors about a 3rd season of Re:Zero. I think they're planning to adapt all the web novel/light novel content. I'd prolly be interested enough to tune in if that happens.

I've been really captivated by Shadows House. There's a classiness about the whole thing and a really intriguing and mysterious premise. It's very unique in many ways but its atmosphere is slightly reminiscent of Promised Neverland season 1. Like a very slow-burning and subtle, horror and mystery vibe.

Spy x Family was good clean fun for the most part. It would be something to cheer you up or make you smile. There didn't seem to be loads of depth to it but maybe there will be more expansion and development in season 2. Perhaps it was a tad overrated by the MAL faithful but the production values are really excellent. How about you, what's your take on it?
SuperGreenTea Aug 6, 2022 4:02 PM
It sounds like you've got One Piece fever and it looks like you're already halfway through it. Less a lifestyle choice, more a summer break choice, then!

I felt the same way about Re:Zero. It did have a late flourish towards the end of season 2 part 2 but even with that, it just managed to lift itself up to a 7, for me. I had difficulties relating to or empathizing with the MC Subaru. He comes across as such a jackass most of the time and I wouldn't necessarily consider myself a jackass lol.

I'm 5 episodes into Shadows House and it's a slow-burning mystery series that's more mature than it first appears. There's a 2nd season that's currently airing which is good because I think this intriguing story and setting could do with 25 episodes. It makes it more immersive with a decent length like that. Also, I finished Princess Principal last week which was better than I could have possibly expected. An all-female main cast into high-level espionage, spying, and assassination. It's kind of like crossing cute anime girls with James Bond lol. The artwork was very beautiful to look at plus a nice jazzy OST from Yuki Kajiura.

I think Touma has a left hand that can nullify any magical attack called 'imagine breaker'. I wonder if that's a metaphor for something xxx ;)

Magical Index seemed quite good at the start but it seemed to get a bit bland and mediocre halfway through. I might give it a second chance though.

There aren't nearly enough people into GITS. I think it gets overlooked in favor of flavor of the month things and might be too serious and complex for younger viewers.

Well, it looks like you've started One Piece, already. How has it been? Has it taken over your life yet?

Yeah, I really liked the first half of the 1st season of Re:Zero but it seemed to go downhill from there. Petelgeuse came across as lurid, vulgar, and OTT. Almost like a wacky, gross, pantomime villain, and some of the action moments seemed unreal or unbelievable - although, to be fair, it is a fantasy environment. I didn't like the white whale arc either and found the whale noises, as it was crying in distress, upsetting. Irrespective of Japanese fishing/whaling culture, I can never believe that whales are monsters - not even in a fantasy world. I thought it was in poor taste. I see you weren't too keen on season 2. What were your main grievances with it? For me, it seemed too long-winded and protracted, and sometimes it was difficult to make sense of or to sustain your concentration for the duration. I mean, season 2 had 28/29 minute episodes and sometimes it seemed to really drag like you weren't enjoying it anymore, and just wanted to get through it. On the plus side, there were a few enthralling, fantastic episodes near the end where it all seemed to come together and all the pieces fell into place, and Betty was fabulous throughout. Also, the artwork, backgrounds, and coloring were really top-tier. I've given all the installments a 7, and the Memory Snow OVA which is my fave, an 8.
